In the realm of coaching, we often talk about manifesting our desires and creating the life we dream of.  But sometimes, even with the best intentions, we get bogged down in the day-to-day grind, feeling like we're just going through the motions.  One simple yet incredibly powerful tool to shift this perspective is the art of reframing our thoughts, specifically by changing "I have to" into "I get to."

Think about it. How often do you find yourself saying, "I have to go to work," "I have to do the laundry," or "I have to make dinner"?  These phrases carry a weight of obligation, a sense of drudgery. They can make even the most enjoyable tasks feel like a burden.  And when we approach life from this perspective, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, stressed, and even resentful.

Now, let's explore the magic of reframing. What if, instead of "I have to go to work," you thought, "I get to go to work"?  This simple shift in wording completely changes the energy. "I get to" implies opportunity, privilege, and gratitude.  It acknowledges that you have a job, a source of income, and perhaps even a place where you can contribute your skills and talents.

The same principle applies to any task, no matter how mundane it might seem.  "I have to do the laundry" becomes "I get to do the laundry," acknowledging that you have clothes to wear, a home to live in, and the ability to care for yourself.  "I have to make dinner" transforms into "I get to make dinner," celebrating the opportunity to nourish yourself and your loved ones.

This isn't about ignoring the less enjoyable aspects of life.  It's about choosing a perspective that empowers you.  It's about finding the silver lining, even in the midst of everyday chores.  By focusing on what you get to do, rather than what you have to do, you shift your energy from resistance to acceptance, from obligation to opportunity.

How to Practice Reframing:

* Become aware of your language: Pay attention to how often you use "I have to" throughout the day.

* Pause and reframe: When you catch yourself saying "I have to," take a moment to pause and reframe the thought using "I get to."

* Find the positive: Even in seemingly negative situations, try to find a positive aspect.  For example, "I have to deal with this difficult client" could become "I get to practice my communication skills and problem-solving abilities."

* Be patient: Reframing takes practice.  Don't get discouraged if you slip back into old habits.  Just keep at it, and you'll gradually start to see a shift in your mindset.

The Benefits of Reframing:

* Increased gratitude: Focusing on what you get to do cultivates a sense of gratitude for the opportunities in your life.

* Reduced stress: Shifting from obligation to opportunity can significantly reduce feelings of stress and overwhelm.

* Improved mood: A more positive mindset can lead to an overall improvement in your mood and well-being.

* Greater sense of control: Reframing empowers you by reminding you that you have a choice in how you perceive your circumstances.

Just as the cards in a tarot reading can be interpreted in different ways depending on the context, so too can our thoughts. By consciously choosing to reframe our thinking, we can unlock a world of possibilities and create a life filled with greater joy, gratitude, and empowerment.

This week, I challenge you to make the "I get to" shift.  Notice the difference it makes in your perspective and your overall sense of well-being.  You might be surprised by the magic you uncover.
